The grassy, large meadow with water and the Urich Cabin are a popular rest spot for Pacific Crest Trail through hikers. The National Park Service eventually bought out the Longmires in 1939. When A&E abruptly canceled Longmire after season 3, it did so on a wild cliffhanger that not only left the fate of Branch Connelly up in the air, but also the fates of Walt Longmire, his Absaroka County deputies, Henry Standing Bear, and many others. The area is in the Nisqually River valley at an elevation of 2,761 feet (842 m) between The Ramparts Ridge and the Tatoosh Range.
